Daiba Rainbow Bridge akebono no kei
may.2020
Inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige
During the period of stay-at-home requests under the state of emergency declaration during the COVID-19 pandemic, the artist created the night view series "Yoru no Kei". This work was presented on the day the curfew period was finally lifted, and was named "Akebono no kei" (meaning "view at dawn") with hope for tomorrow. Hiroshige's "Kanda Myojin Akebono no kei", No.10 from "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" was the inspiration for the title of this work. During the coronavirus pandemic, many rainbows were seen as a symbol of hope in the world, so the Rainbow Bridge was a symbol for hope in Tokyo. This work expresses the state of hope illuminated by the morning sun.
