不二
Fuji
dec.2017
Inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai
This work depicts the Tokyo Skytree located in Oshiage, Sumida Ward. Mount Fuji symbolizes "prosperity, happiness, immortality, and safety", while the pine tree, being evergreen, represents "eternal youth and longevity". These auspicious motifs were frequently depicted in Edo-period Ukiyo-e prints. Particularly, the combination of the evergreen pine and Fuji (meaning "immortality" or "fushi") was a composition favored by Katsushika Hokusai in his "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji".
