原宿竹下

現代の東京の観光名所として名高い、原宿の「竹下通り」です。広重は当時の江戸の名所を118ヶ所描きましたが、現代の東京の名所を118ヶ所選ぶとしたら、間違いなくこの通りが選ばれるでしょう。

通りの奥に描かれているビルは、「パレフランス」の跡地に建てられたタワービルです。パレフランスは1974年に開業したファッションビルで、竹下通り商店街の始まりといわれています。実際にフランスと直接的な関係があった訳ではありませんが、華やかなフランスのモード界への憧れが、現在の竹下通りの賑わいに続いているといえるでしょう。

This is "Takeshita-dori (Takeshita Street)" in Harajuku, one of the most famous sightseeing spots in contemporary Tokyo. Hiroshige painted 118 famous places in Edo at that time, and if he had to choose 118 famous places in contemporary Tokyo, this street would definitely be chosen.

The building depicted at the end of the street is a tower building built on the site of the former "Palais France". The Palais France was a fashion building that opened in 1974 and is said to be the beginning of Takeshita-dori shopping street. Although there was no direct relationship with France, the longing for the glamorous French fashion world has continued in the bustle of Takeshita-dori to the present day.
