水無橋渋谷

原宿駅と渋谷駅の中間、線路を跨ぐ陸橋です。作品タイトルの通り「水」の「無」い線路の上にあるこの道は、江戸時代、ここは青山から代々木方面につながるたった一つの道として貴重な存在でした。1885年、ここに線路が線路が切り拓かれる事になった時、人々はこの貴重な道を残すために、線路の上に橋を作りました。

This is a footbridge spanning the tracks between Harajuku Station and Shibuya Station. As the artwork's title suggests (水/mizu=water, 無/nashi=nothing, 川/kawa=river), this path exists on tracks devoid of water. During the Edo period, it was a precious route, the only road connecting Aoyama to the Yoyogi area. When the railway tracks were laid here in 1885, people built this bridge over the tracks to preserve this vital passageway.
