Nihonbashi Yukibare
dec.2017
Inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige
This is the same composition and same title as Hiroshige's "Nihonbashi Yukibare (Snowy Clear View of Nihonbashi)", No.1 (first) from "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo", depicting present-day Nihonbashi. This is the same New Year's Day (January 1) snow-clear view as the original.
In the Edo period, the Nihonbashi River and Nihonbashi Bridge were depicted in the near view and Edo Castle and Mount Fuji in the distant view, but today, the Metropolitan Highway is in the near view and the Imperial Palace is in the distant view. Mount Fuji still watches over our daily lives.
