王子装束ゑの木大晦日の狐火

広重の「名所江戸百景」第百十八景（最後）「王子装束ゑの木大晦日の狐火」と同じ構図で現代の王子稲荷神社を描いた同じタイトルの作品です。オリジナルと同じく大晦日（12月31日）の狐火伝承の夜景を描いています。江戸時代は榎に集う狐が幻想的に描かれていましたが、現代では榎はなく電信柱に集う狐をビデオゲーム的に描いています。しかし、王子稲荷は変わらず私たちの生活を見守っています。

Inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige

This work depicts the modern-day Oji Inari Shrine with the same composition and the same title as Hiroshige's "Oji shozoku enoki Omisoka no kitsunebi", No.118 (last) from "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo". It depicts the same night scene of foxfire tradition on New Year's Eve (December 31) as Hiroshige's work.

In the Edo period, foxes gathered around an enoki tree were depicted fantastically, but today there are no enoki trees, and foxes gathered around telegraph poles are depicted in a video-game-like manner. Oji Inari still watches over our lives as it always has.
